Life As A Wick

Life as a Wick
Michel Mellinger
(Translation of “La vie comme une mèche”)

A candle, wax, a wick.
The wick catches light and comes to life
A flame rises and settles
From wax draws its essence
From air draws its nourishment
To spread in the universe
Its glistening light.

I am this wick
Where Life burns
The Earth is my resource
Air my spark
Life dwells in me … I am.

I am
Always the same
Always in motion.
My conscience rises,
Blossoms and shines
Moves those close by
Livens up encounters
Lives in those afar.

One day
The wick will go out
Will remain
All the energy
That it gave when alive.
